Cert Clean Beauty Awards

September 8, 2017

This year I got the exciting e-mail to be a part of the Cert Clean Beauty Awards Judging panel. I have always admired what Cert Clean does, so I of course said yes!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Cert Clean it is a company that helps shoppers recognize products that won’t cause harm to human health. In Canada this is very hard to do. I found the information below on their website very helpful.

“There’s a growing awareness that large companies use questionable ingredients, such as talc and parabens. So shoppers turn to brands that use marketing buzzwords like “natural” and “organic.” And they rightfully assume they’re protecting themselves from harm! But in Canada, if just one chemical in a cosmetic is natural or organic, the product is legally allowed to be marketed as entirely natural or organic.”

From personal experience, I can tell you that this makes is very tough to find truly clean products. It has taken a lot of research to get more familiar with the natural and clean beauty world.

To give you a better idea of Cert Clean here is one more blurb off their website that explains further of what they do.

“With clean beauty products proudly bearing the CertClean logo, it is now possible for shoppers to confidently and easily discover safer beauty and personal care products. At the same time, the clean beauty products now get the authentication and distinction they deserve.

CertClean vets beauty and personal care products formulated without the use of potentially harmful ingredients, such as carcinogens, chemicals that may potentially affect our hormonal system, reproductive system, neurological system, etc.

CertClean is not a certification for products with a certain quantity of natural or organic ingredients but a certification for products free from ingredients that may pose risk to our hormonal, reproductive and or neurological systems, like talcum powder, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, and hundreds more (See Standards). CertClean is a certification which prioritizes human health over the use of organic and natural ingredients.”

I have bolded the words, “free from,” because I think that is the best part about Cert Clean. To know they only certify products that are completely free from ingredients that can harm you is important. Lots of products can focus on some of the beneficial and natural ingredients they use which can distract you from some harmful ingredients they may be using as well. I have gotten use to reading labels when I buy products, but it takes time to go through everything to make sure all your ingredients are clean.  By having the Cert Clean certification label (see below) on a product you can confidently skip this step when buying your beauty products.

This company has taken it one step further in helping make your beauty product shopping easier. I am so glad I got to be a part of the Cert Clean Beauty Awards. The concept is very simple. They ask real, natural and clean beauty enthusiasts to try their top picks of each beauty product. I was sent six different brands of hair wash products to use.  After I tried each of them I had to mark them according to how they worked for me. If you take a look at the Clean Beauty Award page you will see there are lots of judges so it’s not biased at all.  I can’t tell you what ended up being my personal favourite, or who the winner is yet, but I do want to share the products that were finalists in case you were looking for a new clean shampoo! Below you will find the 6 finalists I got to try out and a little bit about them, directly from their website or packaging.
